African Ropefish (Erpetoichthys calabaricus)
African ropefish (Erpetoichthys calabaricus) are a unique and intriguing species of fish native to west and central Africa. Also called “reedfish” or “snakefish”, they belong to the bichir (Polypteridae) family and are the only species in their genus. Ropefish have lungs that enable them to breathe atmospheric air and have been observed coming onto land for brief amounts of time.
Currently available specimens are wild caught imports.
