Florida Ravine Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia torreya)
Florida Ravine Trapdoor Spider (Cyclocosmia torreya)
Florida ravine trapdoor spiders (Cyclocosmia torreya) are a large and rare species of mygalomorph with their native range being restricted to northern Florida, particularly the panhandle, and just a few counties in Georgia. These spiders construct tube-like burrows in clay and sandy soils, typically on deep slopes within hardwood forests. They construct a silk, wafer-like lid to cap their burrows which are then expertly camouflaged with debris from the forest floor. Cyclocosmia are an uncommon offering in the hobby, but are popular amongst primitive spider collectors and a must have for the native arachnid enthusiast!
Currently available specimens are field-collected adults.
