Hairy Dune Beetle (Edrotes ventricosus)
Hairy Dune Beetle (Edrotes ventricosus)
Hairy dune beetles (Edrotes ventricosus) are an adorable species of darkling beetle from the southwestern United States. These beetles are fairly uncommon in the hobby and there isn't much comprehensive care information available for them, however they seem to do very well when set up similarly to other desert darkling beetles. Dry dog/cat/fish food and occasional fruits and veggies seem to work well as a staple diet for Edrotes in addition to decaying hardwood leaf litter, which may be more important for this species than other darkling beetles.
Hairy dune beetles are a great display species on their own and in multispecies desert beetle set-ups as they are very active throughout the day and are always hustling and bustling around while scavenging. Don't miss out on these while they're available, I'm not sure if or when I'll have more available!
Currently available specimens are field-collected adults.
