Desert Hairy Scorpion (Hadrurus arizonensis)
Desert Hairy Scorpion (Hadrurus arizonensis)
Desert hairy scorpions (Hadrurus arizonensis) are one of the most iconic arachnids in the world and their image has become synonymous with the American southwest. They are our largest native scorpion and one of the most common species throughout their range. Desert hairy scorpions are hardy, long-lived, and full of attitude making them a great addition for invertebrate keepers of all skill levels.
Going by several different combinations of the same name (Giant desert hairy, Arizona desert hairy, Arizona desert etc) they have been a staple in the invertebrate hobby as long as any and for good reason. I truly don't believe any scorpion collection is complete without at least one Hadrurus species, their impressive size and attitude to match has earned them a well deserved spot top of many hobbyist's favorite list.
Currently available specimens are field-collected sub-adults and adults.
