Fire Eel (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia)
Fire eels (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia) are large and beautiful species of spiny eel native to shallow, slow-moving rivers and swamps of southeast Asia. Fire eels will develop stronger color as they grow and can reach sizes of 30"+. They have a strong preference for live foods and may eat smaller tank mates. In addition to their beauty these impressive eels are hardy, intelligent, and very personable making them extremely popular in the aquarium hobby.
Temperatures of approximately 76f-82f are ideal for fire eels with a pH between 6.8-7.6. They are currently feeding on f/t bloodworms and chopped nightcrawler.
Currently available specimens are wild-caught juveniles.
